Cathedral AI has raised $160 million in fresh funding as a team of former Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) officials launched a new artificial intelligence startup focused on strengthening US military cyber capabilities. Cathedral is also considering acquiring a data centre or partnering with an existing provider to secure dedicated computing infrastructure for its operations. The startup was founded by former DOGE staff members Gavin Kliger, Luke Farritor, Marko Elez and Jack Stein. Sources said the latest investment round valued Cathedral at $1.4 billion, with venture capital firms Andreessen Horowitz and Sequoia Capital leading the funding and joining the company’s board. The investment highlights growing confidence in technology startups created by former DOGE officials, many of whom held influential roles during the Trump administration’s government restructuring and efficiency initiatives in 2025. Reuters reported Cathedral’s valuation, strategic mission and the involvement of former DOGE official Marko Elez for the first time. A company spokesperson declined to comment, while Andreessen Horowitz and Sequoia Capital did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The founders maintain close links with US national security circles and the Trump administration. Gavin Kliger recently served as the Pentagon’s chief data officer, while Luke Farritor and Marko Elez worked at SpaceX before joining DOGE. Elez later resigned after controversial social media posts resurfaced but returned following public support from President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance.
