Karachi: Following Pakistan’s disappointing performance in the Super Four stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, prominent ICC Elite Panel umpire and national selection committee member Aleem Dar has resigned, citing undue interference in selection decisions.

Highly reliable sources reveal that Dar stepped down due to the overriding influence of head coach Mike Hesson and the perceived inaction of senior selection committee member Aaqib Javed. According to insiders, the selectors had initially recommended Pakistan’s best 20 players, but the captain and coach made controversial changes to pick the final 15 and subsequently the playing XI, leaving selectors exposed to criticism.
During the tournament, Dar reportedly raised concerns over the inclusion of former captain Babar Azam and all-rounder Shadab Khan despite inconsistent performances. He also suggested that experienced wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan should have batted at number six instead of Usman Khan. Sources say Dar’s recommendations were overruled without discussion.
Dar’s resignation is widely seen as a principled stand, emphasizing his unwillingness to act as a “puppet” in team selection matters. “Allah has granted me great respect through cricket, and I do not wish to compromise my integrity,” Dar reportedly said.
Cricket analysts suggest that Dar’s exit highlights ongoing tensions within Pakistan’s cricket administration, particularly regarding the balance of authority between the selection committee, coaching staff, and team captain.
