According to sources, the action was launched against an under-construction structure on Plot No. SA-3 in Gulistan-e-Johar. Officials said all legal requirements had been fulfilled prior to the operation, including formal notification and an entry at the concerned police station.
Sources added that police had initially granted permission to the SBCA team to proceed. However, upon arrival of the demolition squad at the site, the situation reportedly took an unexpected turn.
Officials present at the location claimed that SBCA police personnel suddenly instructed the team to suspend the operation and immediately leave the premises. The Station House Officer (SHO) of SBCA police allegedly directed the concerned officials and staff to appear at the police station.
The sudden suspension of the demolition drive has raised concerns among officials involved in the operation, who expressed reservations over the development.
Sources suggested that halting the action could benefit individuals allegedly involved in illegal construction activities. Residents and members of civic society have called for a transparent and impartial inquiry into the incident, urging authorities to ensure that enforcement actions are carried out without interference.
Citizens warned that if lawful operations by regulatory bodies continue to face obstruction, the problem of illegal constructions in Karachi may further escalate.
