Karachi: The Karachi Water and Sewerage Services Improvement Project has intensified work on the K-IV pipeline at Nipa, with teams now aiming to lay two major pipes daily to complete the project within the stipulated timeline.
Officials of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation stated that pipeline installation along the K-IV route is progressing along a shared 2.7-kilometre stretch with the BRT Red Line. Despite technical and safety challenges, the project has entered its final phase.
KW&SC Chief Executive Officer Ahmed Ali Siddiqui apologized for the disruptions caused to residents, shopkeepers, commuters, and students, assuring that all possible steps are being taken to finish the project on schedule.
Excavation work is being conducted to a depth of six metres in an already congested area with existing underground water and sewerage lines, SSGC pressure lines, and K-Electric cables. Some sections provide only five feet of working space, requiring modern excavation techniques to protect both the public and infrastructure. Officials noted that work, temporarily halted in November due to utility damage, has resumed successfully with 36 pipes already laid.
Siddiqui also acknowledged the attention given to the project by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, reiterating that the timely and quality completion of the K-IV project remains the organisation’s top priority.
Once completed, the K-IV initiative, a major infrastructure project of the Sindh government and KW&SC, is expected to supply an additional 260 million gallons of water per day to Karachi. Authorities continue to provide daily progress updates via the corporation’s website and social media channels.
