India’s commanding 61-run victory has left Pakistan in a must-win situation, with the team needing to defeat Namibia national cricket team in their final Group A match in Colombo on Wednesday to advance to the Super Eights stage. A loss would result in Pakistan’s elimination from the tournament, as they currently sit third in the standings behind the USA on net run rate.
Speaking to reporters, Usman said the team had analysed its mistakes following the defeat and was determined not to repeat them. He acknowledged fans’ disappointment after Pakistan opted to field first against India before being bowled out for 114 while chasing a target of 176.
The spinner also dismissed speculation that captain Babar Azam and fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi could be dropped from the playing XI, stressing that both players had delivered match-winning performances for Pakistan in the past.
Usman, who returned figures of 1-24 in four overs during the high-profile clash against India national cricket team, described the match as a career-defining opportunity. He admitted that while he managed to control the run rate, he hoped to deliver an even stronger performance if given another chance.
Pakistan have previously faced Namibia only once in a T20 international but remain confident of victory as they aim not only to qualify but to reach the final and win the title.
Meanwhile, Namibia head coach Craig Williams said his side was determined to finish the tournament on a positive note despite losing all three group matches. He added that his team had prepared specific plans for Pakistan’s batting lineup and had studied Usman Tariq’s bowling closely.
