Electricity relief for consumers across Pakistan, including Karachi, is set to end this month as the Rs1.99 per unit reduction under the quarterly adjustment expires. The reduction took effect in June and will complete its three-month period in August. The quarterly adjustment for April to June 2026 is expected to replace the current relief from next month. As a result, electricity consumers could face higher tariffs. Power distribution companies have already approached the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA). They are seeking to recover an additional burden of more than Rs23 billion from consumers. The proposed adjustment could increase electricity prices by around Rs1 per unit. However, NEPRA will determine the final amount after reviewing the companies’ request. Consumers could therefore see higher electricity bills from September if the regulator approves the proposed adjustment. The change would come after consumers received temporary relief through the existing quarterly adjustment. The new adjustment will determine the tariff impact for the next billing period.
