Defence and Martyrs Day is being observed across Pakistan on Sunday to honour the martyrs who made the ultimate sacrifice for the country and pay tribute to the Ghazis who defended the motherland with courage and valour. The day reaffirms Pakistan’s resolve to protect its sovereignty, territorial integrity and national interests against all threats. September 6 marks the anniversary of the 1965 war, when Indian forces crossed the international border and launched an attack on Pakistan. The Pakistan armed forces, supported by the nation, resisted the offensive and defended the country. The day’s observances will begin with a 31-gun salute in the federal capital and 21-gun salutes in the provincial capitals.
