Pakistan-Germany Relations were discussed as Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar met German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York. The two ministers congratulated each other on the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Germany. They also reaffirmed the importance of regular high-level engagement to strengthen bilateral ties. According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, the ministers discussed expanding cooperation in trade, investment, economic relations and business-to-business partnerships. They also agreed to explore greater cooperation in defence, education, skills development and people-to-people contacts. The two sides exchanged views on regional developments. Germany’s foreign minister appreciated what the Pakistani side described as Pakistan’s constructive role in promoting regional peace and stability through dialogue and diplomacy. Dar stressed the need for continued international efforts to secure a ceasefire, provide humanitarian assistance and pursue what Pakistan described as a just and lasting settlement based on a two-state solution. Dar’s meeting with Wadephul formed part of his wider diplomatic engagements during the UN General Assembly’s high-level week in New York. Pakistan’s Foreign Office said Dar is holding bilateral meetings with several foreign counterparts during the session.
