Security forces killed seven militants during an intelligence-based operation in the Eidak area of North Waziristan, according to security sources.

The operation was carried out as part of ongoing counter-terrorism efforts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under the Azm-e-Istehkam initiative. Security sources said troops pursued militants and targeted their positions, destroying several hideouts during the operation.

State media reported that the militants were identified by Pakistani authorities as members of Fitna al-Khawarij, a term used by the state for the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

Security sources said continued operations against militant positions had restricted their ability to operate in the area. They added that security forces remained committed to eliminating terrorism and establishing lasting peace under the Azm-e-Istehkam vision.

President Asif Ali Zardari commended the security forces for the operation and praised their professional capabilities. He said efforts under the Azm-e-Istehkam initiative to eliminate terrorism and establish lasting peace were commendable.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also praised the security forces, saying the operation reflected their professionalism and the country’s resolve to combat terrorism. He said the destruction of militant hideouts was commendable and that operations against terrorist elements would continue.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi paid tribute to the personnel involved and described them as national heroes. In a statement, he praised their professional capabilities and said the operation had helped thwart militant plans.

Naqvi also referred to the seven militants as “Indian-sponsored terrorists”, reflecting the government’s stated position. That attribution was not independently established in the reports reviewed.

The operation comes amid continuing militant violence and counter-terrorism operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Pakistani authorities have repeatedly said that Azm-e-Istehkam is aimed at strengthening efforts against militant groups and improving security across the country.
