India were fined 20% of their match fees, while the West Indies received a 10% penalty after both teams fell short of the required over-rate. India were four overs behind and the West Indies two overs short after time allowances were taken into account, the ICC said.

The sanctions were imposed by Prakash Bhatt of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees. Both captains admitted the offences and accepted the proposed penalties, meaning no formal hearings were required.

Under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct, players are fined 5% of their match fee for every over their team fails to bowl within the allotted time.

India had already secured the three-match ODI series after winning the opening two matches. The West Indies, however, ended the ODI leg of their tour with a record-breaking victory in New Chandigarh.

Led by captain Shai Hope’s unbeaten 162, the West Indies chased down India’s target of 352 with five wickets to spare. It was their highest successful run chase in men’s ODI cricket.

Hope’s innings also became the highest score by a West Indies men’s batter in a successful ODI chase, surpassing Brian Lara’s 153 against Pakistan in 1993.

India had posted 351-7, with KL Rahul making an unbeaten 129 and Rohit Sharma scoring 92. The West Indies reached the target with 10 balls remaining.

The two teams will now switch formats, with their five-match T20I series scheduled to begin on October 6 in Lucknow.
