Lyari Torture Case as Karachi police investigate the alleged abduction and torture of a teenager.Lyari Torture Case under investigation after footage allegedly showing the assault of a teenager surfaced.

Five suspects have been taken into custody in Karachi’s Lyari area over the alleged abduction and brutal torture of a teenage boy, after mobile phone footage of the assault circulated.

The video shows the teenager stripped, tied up and repeatedly beaten with a leather belt and a stick. His neck, arms and legs appear bound as the assailants continue the assault and record it on a mobile phone.

The incident reportedly took place on October 11 in Phool Patti Lane, Lyari. The footage has raised concerns about possible gang-related intimidation in the area. However, police have said the incident stemmed from a dispute among young men and was not linked to a confrontation between rival gang-war groups.

According to police, a case was registered at Baghdadi police station on October 14 following a complaint by the victim’s maternal uncle, Kabir Ahmed. The FIR includes charges relating to attempted murder, abduction and assault.

In his complaint, Ahmed said he worked at a cardboard box manufacturing unit in Pakistan Chowk. His nephew, Ghulam Nabi, aged 17 or 18 and a Class VIII student, returned home on October 11 in a frightened state, with visible marks of torture on his face.

According to the complaint, the teenager told his uncle that he had been walking towards Lyari General Hospital for work that night when he reached Phool Patti Lane No. 20, near Dongi Chowk. He allegedly encountered seven men, including Sharif and Arshad, sons of former gang-war commander Baba Ladla.

The other men named in the complaint were Uzair, son of Ishaq; Faraz, son of Qasim; Ali, son of Tahir; Ghazanfar Ali; and Shahzaib.

Ahmed alleged that the suspects had been involved in a dispute with his nephew about two months earlier.

According to the teenager’s account recorded in the FIR, some of the men were armed when they seized him and took him to a small room. He alleged that they tied his hands and feet, stripped him and beat him severely with sticks. He also claimed that the assailants forced a bridle into his mouth while filming the assault.

The complaint further alleges that Sharif threatened to kill the teenager and drew a pistol. Arshad reportedly pushed Sharif’s hand upwards as he fired, causing the shot to miss the victim.

The suspects later untied the teenager after he pleaded for his life, according to the complaint. They allegedly warned him not to return to the area. He then put on his clothes and fled home.

Police have described the incident as arising from a personal dispute rather than a clash between gang-war groups. The allegations against the suspects remain subject to investigation and legal proceedings.
