Sindh’s education minister has banned the use of CNG and LPG cylinders in school vans and issued new safety instructions to private educational institutions. Under the directives, school transport operators are also prohibited from using unsafe refuelling methods, including supplying petrol to vehicle engines through bottles or cans. The instructions bar school vans from carrying more students than their approved capacity. They also prohibit transporting children while standing on vehicle footboards. The minister’s letter makes a fitness certificate issued by the Sindh government mandatory for all school transport vehicles. Each van must carry a copy of the certificate. The letter warns that school administrations will face action if they fail to comply with the safety instructions. Private educational institutions have been directed to ensure strict implementation of all transport safety regulations. The minister stressed that students’ lives and safety would not be compromised and urged schools to follow the directives.
