Pakistan completed a dominant 3-0 whitewash, with Saim contributing 119 runs and claiming three wickets across the series. The International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed on Wednesday that Ayub climbed one place to reclaim the No.1 ranking, overtaking Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza.
In its announcement, the ICC said Ayub’s rise comes at an encouraging time for Pakistan, just days ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Pakistan will be aiming to secure their second T20 World Cup title and their first since lifting the trophy in 2009.
Pakistan’s bowling unit also made notable gains in the rankings. Spinner Abrar Ahmed jumped two places to second in the T20 bowlers’ rankings after taking six wickets against Australia. He now trails India’s Varun Chakravarthy, the top-ranked bowler, by just 28 rating points.
Another spinner, Mohammad Nawaz, surged eight places to seventh in the T20 bowlers’ rankings following his five-wicket haul in the final match of the series. Nawaz also improved his standing in the all-rounder rankings, moving up one spot to fourth.
In the T20 batting rankings, Saim Ayub climbed eight places to 27th, while Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha rose 12 spots to 29th, reflecting Pakistan’s strong all-round showing in the series.
