OpenAI on Thursday announced the launch of a new enterprise-focused service called Frontier, designed to help companies build and manage artificial intelligence agents — tools capable of completing specific tasks such as fixing software bugs.

The new platform forms part of OpenAI’s broader push into the enterprise market, where it is competing directly with rivals, notably AI startup Anthropic, which currently derives much of its revenue from corporate clients.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said last year that enterprise growth would be a “huge focus” for the company, and Frontier represents a major step in that strategy.
The enterprise sector is one of several areas where OpenAI and Anthropic are going head-to-head. Both companies are also preparing for potential public listings, setting up a rivalry for investor attention.
Competition between the two firms has extended into marketing as well, with both planning to air advertisements during the Super Bowl. Anthropic’s ad appears to take a subtle jab at OpenAI’s move to introduce advertising on ChatGPT — a move that drew criticism within OpenAI earlier this week. Responding on X, Altman described Anthropic’s ad as amusing but “clearly dishonest.”
OpenAI executives said Frontier is designed to integrate with a company’s existing infrastructure, as well as AI agents developed by third parties. This approach could help accelerate adoption of OpenAI’s enterprise tools, according to Fidji Simo, who leads OpenAI’s product and business teams as CEO of applications.
“This is us saying we’re going to build an intelligence layer that’s going to help every enterprise turn on agents in a much easier way,” Simo said.
