Veteran striker Danny Welbeck scored in each half to secure a deserved win for Brighton at the Amex Stadium. The result marked Liverpool’s 10th league defeat of the season, leaving them fifth on 49 points with just one point from their last three matches.
Brighton took the lead early through Welbeck’s header before Liverpool responded via Milos Kerkez following a defensive error. However, Welbeck restored the advantage shortly after halftime with a close-range finish, sealing the win for the hosts.
Elsewhere, Everton boosted their European hopes with a dominant 3-0 victory over Chelsea, extending the visitors’ losing streak to four matches in all competitions. Beto scored twice, while Iliman Ndiaye added a late goal to complete Everton’s biggest win over Chelsea since 1987.
At Craven Cottage, Fulham came from behind to defeat Burnley 3-1, strengthening their position in mid-table, while Burnley remain deep in relegation trouble.
Meanwhile, Brentford missed a chance to climb the table after being held to a goalless draw by Leeds United, in a result that dented their hopes of securing European football next season.
With only a handful of matches remaining, the race for European qualification in the Premier League continues to intensify.
