The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2025–26 matches scheduled for Tuesday, December 30, were postponed following the passing of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed. The decision was taken in observance of national mourning and in recognition of her contributions to the development of cricket in Bangladesh.
Two matches were slated to be played at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. The day fixture between Sylhet Titans and Chattogram Royals, as well as the evening match featuring Dhaka Capitals against Rangpur Riders, were both called off shortly after confirmation of Khaleda Zia’s death at around 6:00 AM local time.
In an official statement, the BCB paid tribute to the former prime minister, highlighting her support for cricket during her tenures from 1991 to 1996 and again from 2001 to 2006. The board noted that her patronage played a significant role in improving cricket infrastructure and promoting the sport across the country.
“In respect of the nation’s mourning and in honour of Begum Khaleda Zia’s legacy, the Bangladesh Cricket Board announces that today’s scheduled Bangladesh Premier League matches have been cancelled and will be rescheduled,” the statement said, adding that revised fixtures would be announced later.
When will BPL resume?
The BPL is tentatively expected to resume from Wednesday, December 31. However, the seven-day national mourning period announced by Khaleda Zia’s party, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), may impact the tournament schedule. The BCB said it is closely monitoring the situation before finalizing new match dates.
