The Customs Valuation Department has revised downward the assessment rates for duties and taxes on the commercial import of used and old mobile phones, a move aimed at reducing costs for consumers of second-hand smartphones.

The department has also fixed new assessment values for high-end used iPhone models, ranging from the iPhone 14 series to the iPhone 15 lineup. Customs officials said the revision reflects a decline in international prices of older smartphones as they near the end of their commercial life cycle. The adjustment is intended to bring valuation rates in line with market realities and ensure that the benefit is passed on to end consumers.
Under the revised schedule, significant reductions have been made in the valuation of several older iPhone models. The valuation for an iPhone 13 Pro Max has been reduced from $430 to $295, while the iPhone 13 Pro has been cut from $360 to $225. Similarly, the iPhone 13 now stands at $170, down from $280, and the iPhone 12 Pro has been reduced from $280 to $155. Other notable cuts include the iPhone 12 Pro Max, revised to $215 from $340, and the iPhone 11 Pro Max, lowered from $245 to $145.
The valuation department has also set fresh assessment values for newer used iPhones. These include $460 for the iPhone 15 Pro Max, $390 for the iPhone 15 Pro, $320 for the iPhone 15 Plus, $310 for the iPhone 15, $360 for the iPhone 14 Pro Max, $290 for the iPhone 14 Pro, and $210 for the iPhone 14.
In addition, valuation rates for Samsung Galaxy, Google Pixel, and OnePlus models have either been fixed for the first time or retained without change. High-end Android devices such as the Galaxy S23 Ultra have been valued at $255, while the Pixel 9 Pro XL has been assessed at $260. Several mid-range and older Android models have also been assigned lower valuations to reflect prevailing market prices.
Customs officials said the revised valuations would help stabilise prices in the local used mobile phone market while ensuring transparency and consistency in duty and tax assessments.
