Karachi (Staff Reporter) — November 20, 2025: A high-level meeting on the ongoing Measles and Rubella (MR) vaccination campaign was held on Thursday at the office of the Deputy Commissioner Central, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Taha Saleem. Representatives from the Health Department, the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, the Polio Eradication Initiative (PEI), and other relevant agencies attended.
Officials said the MR vaccination campaign, supported by UNICEF and WHO, has formally begun in District Central for children under the age of five. The drive will continue from November 17 to November 29, 2025.
Deputy Commissioner Taha Saleem emphasized that safeguarding children from life-threatening diseases such as measles and rubella remains a top priority for the district administration. He instructed all relevant departments to ensure full coverage of the campaign and guarantee that no eligible child is missed.
He added that, with assistance from the Polio Eradication Initiative, oral polio vaccines are also being administered to children under five. WHO teams are conducting door-to-door visits to ensure comprehensive vaccination against measles, rubella, and polio.
The Deputy Commissioner urged parents—especially vaccine-hesitant households—to recognize the severe risks associated with measles, rubella, and polio and to cooperate fully with vaccination teams.
Addressing parents and teachers, he stated:
“We urge you to help protect your children from lifelong disabilities and deadly diseases. Health workers are visiting schools, madrassas, and homes to administer essential vaccines, and your cooperation is vital.”
At the end of the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner directed all departments to strictly monitor campaign activities and submit daily performance reports to his office.
