The Delhi High Court on Thursday heard actor Rajpal Yadav’s bail application in a long-running cheque bounce case, postponing further proceedings until Monday. The actor remains lodged in Tihar Jail for failing to honour repayment commitments.

Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma, while hearing the matter, remarked, “You have gone to jail because you didn’t honour your own commitment,” noting that Yadav had assured repayment on at least two dozen occasions but did not fulfil those promises.
During the hearing, Yadav’s counsel initially informed the court that the money would be deposited by Thursday. However, when proceedings resumed at 2:30pm, the lawyer told the court he had been unable to contact the actor and had filed a bail application instead.
The court directed the complainant to file a response to the bail plea and observed that earlier relief had already been denied. “They have challenged the first order before the Supreme Court, and the Supreme Court didn’t give them any relief. Anyway, we will have it on Monday,” the judge said.
The case dates back to 2010 when Yadav borrowed Rs5 crore from Murali Projects Pvt Ltd to finance his 2012 directorial venture, Ata Pata Laapata. After the film failed at the box office, the actor reportedly faced financial difficulties and several cheques issued by him were dishonoured, prompting legal proceedings under the Negotiable Instruments Act.
