A Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in Lahore has confessed to murdering his wife and daughter months after falsely reporting them as missing, police officials confirmed on Sunday.
False Claims Target Pakistan After Sydney Shooting as Fake Images Circulate Online
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Zeeshan Raza Shah said DSP Usman Haider admitted to shooting and killing his wife and daughter before dumping their bodies separately in the areas of Kahna and Sheikhupura.
According to the DIG, both bodies have been recovered and sent for post-mortem examinations, while further investigation into the case is ongoing.
Police officials revealed that the couple had been experiencing prolonged marital discord, which reportedly escalated after DSP Haider entered into a second marriage. Frequent domestic disputes followed, eventually leading to the fatal incident.
Authorities said the deceased woman was DSP Haider’s first wife, whom he had married in a love marriage. Tensions reportedly intensified after his second marriage, culminating in the killing.
DIG Shah stated that a “strong challan” would be prepared to ensure the accused is prosecuted and punished in accordance with the law. He added that more facts are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
Earlier, DSP Haider himself had lodged a First Information Report (FIR) at Barki Police Station, claiming that his wife and daughter had been abducted. The FIR was registered on October 18 under Section 365 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
Police later uncovered inconsistencies in his statement, leading to his confession during the investigation.
