Rawalpindi: Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Ahmed Mohamed Abdelatty met Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir on Sunday at the General Headquarters (GHQ) to discuss defence cooperation, security collaboration and regional stability, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said.
During the meeting, both sides underscored the importance of sustained high-level engagement between the armed forces of Egypt and Pakistan. The discussion covered military exchanges, training collaborations, and efforts to promote peace and stability in the region, according to the MoFA statement.
The meeting formed part of Abdelatty’s two-day official visit to Pakistan from November 29 to 30, during which he held political and military dialogues with key Pakistani leadership.
In addition to his GHQ visit, the Egyptian foreign minister also held meetings with President Asif Ali Zardari, and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, followed by delegation-level talks at MoFA.
During a joint press conference, DPM Dar announced that Pakistan will share a list of 250 business enterprises, selected through a transparent process, for inclusion in Egypt’s “white list.” Another list of 250 companies will follow within six months, taking the total to 500 firms.
Both sides also agreed to establish a Pakistan–Egypt Business Council to institutionalise trade and investment cooperation. A new visa facilitation mechanism has been finalised to ease travel and business movement between the two countries.
Dar said political consultations will be held in Pakistan in the first quarter of 2026, with the next meeting scheduled for Cairo in the second quarter of 2026. For the first time since 2010, Pakistan and Egypt have also agreed to convene the Joint Ministerial Commission in 2026.
Foreign Minister Abdelatty expressed profound condolences over recent terrorist attacks in Islamabad and Peshawar, reaffirming Egypt’s solidarity with Pakistan in the fight against terrorism. He said both nations face shared economic, political, and security challenges, encouraging deeper cooperation.
“Peace and stability are the main pillars of our strategic partnership,” he said, adding that Egypt seeks to elevate bilateral ties to a strategic level and revive institutional mechanisms of dialogue, particularly the Joint Ministerial Committee.
He stressed Egypt’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Pakistan across all sectors under the guidance of their top leadership.
