Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has reiterated his intention to remain at the Etihad Stadium, dismissing speculation linking former Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca with a potential move to succeed him.

The 54-year-old Spaniard, who will mark a decade in charge of City later this year, confirmed he plans to honour his contract, which runs until the end of the 2026–27 season. His comments come amid reports that City had held exploratory talks with Maresca, a former Guardiola assistant, about a future managerial role.
Maresca recently parted ways with Chelsea on New Year’s Day, with reports suggesting his departure followed discussions with Manchester City. Guardiola, however, downplayed the speculation, praising Maresca’s qualities while reaffirming his own commitment.
“I have a contract. I’ve said it many times. I’m happy here and I want to continue fighting with my team,” Guardiola said. “The club supported me even during difficult periods, and that shows mutual respect.”
Guardiola also expressed sympathy for Chelsea following Maresca’s exit, calling the Italian coach “an incredible manager and an incredible person,” while stressing that managerial decisions rest with club hierarchies.
On the pitch, City’s Premier League title push suffered a setback after a 0-0 draw against Sunderland, leaving them four points behind leaders Arsenal at the halfway stage of the season. City now turn their attention to a home clash against Chelsea on Sunday.
With Chelsea set to be led on an interim basis by under-21s coach Calum McFarlane, Guardiola admitted uncertainty over what to expect but insisted his focus remains on his own squad’s performance as City prepare for a demanding run of fixtures.
