KARACHI: Activities of the illegal portion mafia continue unabated in various parts of Karachi, leaving citizens vulnerable to fraud, threats and intimidation.

In a recent incident, a man identified as Kashif Hussain has been accused of defrauding a citizen of Rs8 million under the pretext of selling a flat. According to a police complaint, the complainant, Abdul Manan, paid the amount to the accused for the purchase of a flat. However, when he later demanded the return of his money, the accused allegedly resorted to threats instead of refunding the amount.
Another citizen, Abdul Rehman, also approached the police regarding the matter, prompting the registration of a case at North Nazimabad Police Station.
According to the FIR, Kashif Hussain called the complainant to North Nazimabad Block C for repayment. The complainant stated that he went to the accused’s office along with his father. Upon arrival, the accused allegedly pointed a pistol at the complainant at the gate, while other armed individuals present also issued threats.
The FIR further states that the accused told the complainant that going to jail was not an issue for him and threatened to kill the complainant and his family if the demand for money continued. He also allegedly claimed to have the backing of a gangster group and warned the complainant against pursuing the matter further.
Additionally, the accused is said to have threatened the complainant with false cases to silence him. The FIR names Kashif Hussain, Rahib Ali and other unidentified suspects.
Police sources confirmed that the case was registered on the directions of SSP Central. Law enforcement officials said that raids are underway to arrest the nominated suspects and assured that arrests are expected soon.
Citizens have urged authorities to take strict action against illegal portion mafias, warning that such unchecked activities pose a serious threat to public safety and trust in the city.
