The move follows a significant rise in cross-border viewership, with Pakistani dramas gaining strong traction among Indian audiences, particularly through international platforms.
Pakistani actor and singer Farhan Saeed said the restriction reflects the growing popularity and influence of Pakistani productions in India. He noted that younger viewers in both countries continue to consume Pakistani serials through global streaming services despite limited official channels.
Saeed stressed the need for Pakistan to invest more in promoting its television content internationally, arguing that stronger global visibility would further elevate the country’s presence in the entertainment industry. According to him, Pakistani dramas remain highly searched and widely watched in India, revealing consistent demand.
Pakistan’s drama industry has long earned admiration across the border. Several Indian actors and industry professionals have commended the storytelling, production quality and emotional depth of Pakistani serials. Some have even encouraged Indian production houses to draw inspiration from Pakistan’s narrative style.
This sustained popularity is believed to have influenced the latest restrictions, which now limit Indian audiences’ access to Pakistani content on streaming platforms.
