KARACHI – Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi has reiterated the city administration’s firm stance against roadside encroachments, warning that shops violating regulations will be sealed and legal cases registered against the owners.
The Commissioner urged shopkeepers, restaurant owners, and vendors to confine their operations strictly within designated premises, avoiding footpaths and roads. He instructed all Deputy Commissioners to take impartial, sustained measures to curb the culture of encroachments across Karachi.
District-Wise Operations:
Central District: Deputy Commissioner Taha Saleem reported actions in Hyderi Market, where nine shops were sealed, including Kids Shoes Hyderi Market, Maze Shoes, Abdul Wali Fabrics, Geo Footwear, Shan Kaghan Place, Sasiha Jewellers, Smart Choice, Fatima Jewellers, and Shehzadi Shoes. In New Karachi Sector 11-E, encroachments by motor mechanics and motorcycle workshops were demolished following residents’ complaints. Illegal setups in Nazimabad No. 1 were also cleared.
South District: Assistant Commissioner Saddar Rana Sufyan led operations in Bohri Bazaar, Dr. Daud Pota Road, Mansfield Street, and nearby areas. Five suspects were booked under FIRs for illegally placing handcarts, including Waqar Ahmed, Ahmed Ali, Riaz, Muhammad Umar, and Muhammad Saleh. Continuous monitoring has been deployed to prevent re-encroachment. Encroachments in Kharadar, Aram Bagh, were also removed.
East District: Deputy Commissioner Abrar Jafar conducted operations along Shahrah-e-Faisal, seizing chairs and removing illegal cabins, tea hotel setups, and other obstructions from the Pakistan Meteorological Department intersection to Kamran Chowrangi. Teams faced resistance from shopkeepers, resulting in stone-pelting that injured a passerby.
Korangi District: Deputy Commissioner Masood Bhutto reported removal of encroachments from Aman Tower Korangi Crossing to Nasir Jump.
Malir District: Deputy Commissioner Saleemullah Sheikh confirmed clearance of illegal structures near Al-Khidmat Hospital Phase-II Chowk and along National Highway (N-5), including temporary shops and cabins.
West District: Deputy Commissioner Zulfiqar Memon oversaw anti-encroachment operations in Orangi.
The Commissioner emphasized the need for continuous monitoring and vigilance to prevent the re-establishment of encroachments and ensure clear roads and footpaths throughout Karachi.
