The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted a prolonged cold spell for Karachi, with nighttime temperatures expected to plunge to between 10°C and 12°C in the coming days. The chilly conditions, accompanied by strong winds, are likely to persist until January 19.
Currently, the city’s temperature hovers around 12°C, with daytime highs reaching approximately 26°C. Humidity stands at 70%, and winds from the northeast are blowing at 11 km/h. The PMD has warned of intensified chills due to stronger winds on January 17, urging residents to prepare for colder weather.
While Karachi remains a focal point of the cold wave, other parts of Pakistan are also experiencing extended periods of cold and dry weather. Dense fog is forecasted for Punjab and Upper Sindh during early mornings and nights, which may significantly reduce visibility and create hazards for travelers.
In northwestern Balochistan, isolated rainfall and snowfall are expected, while Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan brace for intensified cold conditions, particularly in high-altitude regions.
Citizens across the country are advised to take precautions by dressing warmly, minimizing outdoor activities, and exercising caution when traveling, especially in fog-prone areas.
