The Karachi Water & Sewerage Corporation (KW&SC) has released its November report, revealing that the city lost an estimated 884 million gallons of water due to repeated power outages at major pumping stations, primarily caused by K-Electric’s prolonged electricity breakdowns.

A KW&SC spokesperson said that continuous interruptions in power supply halted pumping operations for hours, severely disrupting water distribution across Karachi.
The Dhabeji pumping station suffered the largest impact, experiencing 132 hours and 20 minutes of electricity suspension, resulting in a shortfall of 424 million gallons. At the Dumlottee station, 146 hours of outages caused a deficit of 111 million gallons, while the North East Karachi facility reported a loss of 335 million gallons.
Additional deficits were recorded at smaller stations, including 6 million gallons each at Hub and Pipri, and 2 million gallons at Gharo.
Officials warned that frequent shutdowns not only restricted supply but also jeopardised the safety and longevity of pumping machinery. They urged K-Electric to ensure uninterrupted power through measures such as alternate feeders, standby cabling, and immediate technical upgrades to protect the city’s water infrastructure.
The spokesperson added that KW&SC remains in close communication with K-Electric. Water distribution has now normalised following the restoration of power, and efforts are under way to reinforce the system to prevent future disruptions.
