The Universe |The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Islamabad has declared Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and Umar Tanveer Butt as proclaimed offenders in a case related to protests against the disqualification of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Founder Imran Khan.
The case, presided over by ATC Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra, also initiated proceedings to declare former federal minister Amir Mahmood Kayani a proclaimed offender. PTI leaders Faisal Javed and Wasiq Qayyum appeared in court during the hearing.
Court Actions
The ATC has decided to separate the cases of the proclaimed offenders from those of other accused individuals. Arrest warrants have been issued for several individuals who failed to appear in court.
Additionally, Senator Faisal Javed filed a petition requesting the removal of terrorism-related charges from the case. The court has scheduled further hearings for January 15, directing arguments on the submitted petitions.
Case Background
The charges stem from a protest held in 2022 against the disqualification of PTI leader Imran Khan. The case, registered at Islamabad’s I-9 Police Station, involves multiple accused linked to the demonstrations.
As the court continues to deliberate, the proceedings highlight the ongoing legal challenges faced by PTI leaders in the wake of Imran Khan’s political controversies.
