Meta (META.O) has announced the acquisition of Chinese artificial intelligence startup Manus, signaling its ongoing push to integrate advanced AI capabilities across its products and services. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Manus, headquartered in Singapore, develops general-purpose AI agents capable of performing tasks such as research, automation, and other functions independently with minimal human input. Meta plans to operate and sell Manus’ AI services while integrating the technology into its consumer and business offerings, including its Meta AI platform.
The acquisition follows Meta’s broader strategy of expanding AI capabilities through investments and talent acquisitions. Earlier this year, the company invested in data-labeling startup Scale AI in a $29 billion deal, bringing in CEO Alexandr Wang.
Manus claims its AI agent, launched earlier this year, outperforms OpenAI’s DeepResearch, completing dozens of tasks for users on X for free. The company, part of Beijing Butterfly Effect Technology Ltd Co, relocated to Singapore in recent years, aiming to reduce operational risks amid growing Sino-U.S. geopolitical tensions.
With this acquisition, Meta continues to strengthen its position in the competitive AI landscape, leveraging innovative technologies to enhance automation, research capabilities, and consumer experiences.
