In a statement, Dr. Siddiqui said MQM Pakistan appreciates the government’s move and considers it an important recognition of the pain endured by families whose loved ones have been missing for years.
He stressed, however, that the families of MQM Pakistan’s innocent missing political workers must be explicitly included in the relief package, alongside other affected families nationwide.
Dr. Siddiqui claimed that the highest number of politically motivated enforced disappearances in Pakistan involved workers of MQM Pakistan, many of whom have remained missing for long periods without any resolution.
He added that the families of forcibly disappeared MQM workers have been repeatedly approaching government offices and courts in their struggle to recover their loved ones, yet continue to face frustration and delays.
The MQM-P chairman said the party would continue its efforts for the recovery of missing persons and for ensuring relief and justice for their families.
He further announced that a high-level MQM Pakistan delegation would soon meet the Prime Minister of Pakistan to raise the issue of missing persons and convey the grievances of affected families.
Dr. Siddiqui also urged the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take effective steps to ensure the recovery of missing political workers, particularly those who disappeared from urban Sindh, with special emphasis on Karachi.
