Peshawar: Customs Enforcement Peshawar seized a large consignment of foreign-origin smuggled and contraband goods worth PKR 50 million, along with the vehicle used for transport, during an operation at Nizampur on Pindi Road on Saturday. The total estimated value of the case amounts to PKR 70 million.
Officials of the Kohat Customs Division, operating under discreet surveillance, intercepted a suspicious Hino truck at a mobile checkpoint around 4:30 pm. Upon inspection, the vehicle was found carrying non-duty-paid goods, including 15,000 sticks of assorted foreign cigarettes, 2,200 kg of betel nuts, 1,000 packets of gutka, and 1,200 packets of hookah products.
The driver was unable to produce any documents proving lawful import, prompting the immediate seizure of the goods under the Customs Act 1969.
The operation was led by Assistant Commissioner Customs Omer Jan, assisted by Inspectors Asif Nisar and Waqar Ahmad of Customs Enforcement Peshawar.
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) reaffirmed its commitment to combating smuggling and illicit trade, emphasizing the protection of the nation’s economic frontiers.
