In a message addressed to Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, Putin expressed deep sorrow over Larijani’s death, describing him as a close friend and praising his role in strengthening ties between Russia and Iran.
He stated that the killing had undermined fundamental ethical principles and international norms.
Meanwhile, China also condemned the incident, with its Foreign Ministry calling the killing in an alleged Israeli airstrike unacceptable.
Chinese officials said Beijing is actively working to reduce tensions in the region, with special envoy Zhai Jun engaging in diplomatic efforts and holding meetings with senior leaders across the Middle East.
The killing of Larijani has further heightened regional tensions, prompting renewed calls from global powers for restraint and dialogue.
