According to media reports, Ranveer Singh received a threatening WhatsApp voice note from an unidentified individual demanding approximately ₹100 million. The actor promptly alerted Mumbai Police, who have since launched an investigation to trace the sender and verify the source of the message.
In response to the threat, authorities have significantly increased security outside the couple’s home. Six armed security personnel have been deployed at the residence, in addition to a uniformed police officer already stationed on-site. Investigators are also working to track the digital footprint of the extortionist.
The incident comes amid a series of troubling developments targeting prominent figures in Mumbai’s film industry. Recently, five bullets were fired outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s residence in Juhu, raising concerns about escalating criminal activity.
Law enforcement agencies are reportedly examining whether the extortion attempt could be linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, which has previously been associated with threats against high-profile Bollywood personalities. However, officials have not confirmed any direct connection at this stage.
Police officials said further details would be shared as the investigation progresses.
