Presiding over a high-level meeting on citywide road rehabilitation, the chief minister also ordered the installation and repair of streetlights across Karachi and stressed that every newly constructed street must have a proper drainage system to prevent waterlogging and structural deterioration.
The meeting was attended by Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab, and Chief Secretary Asif Haider Shah.
CM Murad noted that recent heavy rains had badly damaged Karachi’s roads, while ongoing mega projects were contributing to traffic congestion. Nonetheless, he emphasized the need to accelerate development for public relief.
“I want work to accelerate so people do not suffer further. Delay will not be tolerated under any circumstances,” he said.
Mayor Wahab briefed the chief minister that 315 internal streets are severely damaged and require urgent rehabilitation. He added that 60 major roads across the city are also slated for reconstruction, with an estimated cost of Rs25 billion.
CM Murad instructed officials to approve internal street schemes without delay and ensure prompt execution, saying that funding would not be an obstacle.
“I want immediate and quality work for citizens,” he stressed.
The chief minister also congratulated Mayor Wahab on the inauguration of RO plants in Keamari, reaffirming the government’s commitment to providing clean drinking water, better roads, and improved law and order. He noted that the Sindh Safe City Project has already helped reduce traffic accidents in Karachi.
