The first trailer of Bilal Atif Khan’s upcoming slapstick comedy Aag Lagay Basti Mein was released on Monday, offering a fast-paced glimpse into a world where honesty clearly does not pay — at least at first.

Set for release on Eidul Fitr, the film stars Fahad Mustafa and Mahira Khan in lead roles as Barkat and Almaas, a married couple struggling to make ends meet. Barkat is portrayed as an upright, hardworking man whose good intentions repeatedly land him in trouble, while Almaas, fed up with his overly honest approach, pushes for a more daring path to survival.
Starting off as cleaners, the couple soon turn to petty crime in hopes of improving their lives — a decision seemingly driven by Almaas. What begins as small-time mischief quickly escalates, drawing the attention of bigger and more dangerous criminals.
The supporting cast features veteran actor Javed Sheikh as a crime boss, while comedian Tabish Hashmi takes on the role of the film’s main antagonist. Social media personality Shehzaadi Samra, known for the viral “accha jee, aisa hai kya” meme, also makes a cameo appearance.
Packed with gunfights, car chases and punchy humour, the trailer balances action with glimpses into Barkat and Almaas’ strained domestic life. One scene showing Fahad Mustafa in a tattered prison jumpsuit hints that their criminal ambitions may come at a heavy cost.
The teaser released earlier in January similarly teased chaos and confusion, referencing the fable of the goose that laid the golden eggs — suggesting that greed and overreach could be at the heart of the couple’s troubles.
Much of the cast, excluding Tabish Hashmi, previously worked together in Quaid e Azam Zindabad, while Fahad Mustafa and Javed Sheikh also shared screen space in the popular Na Maloom Afraad films. Like those crime capers, Aag Lagay Basti Mein appears to blend fast-paced comedy, criminal escapades and the unmistakable spirit of Karachi.
