Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Usama Abdul Karim has been elected unopposed as a member of the Punjab Assembly from provincial constituency PP-289 (Dera Ghazi Khan).

The Returning Officer has issued the official notification confirming his unopposed election. According to election officials, all rival candidates withdrew their nomination papers, leading to Usama Abdul Karim’s uncontested victory. Muhammad Abad Khan was among those who formally withdrew from the race.
The seat of PP-289 fell vacant following the resignation of Sardar Mahmood Qadir Khan Laghari, necessitating the by-election process.
Under the announced election schedule, nomination papers were to be submitted from December 10 to 12, scrutiny was conducted on December 18, and election symbols were scheduled to be allotted on January 1, 2026. Polling was set for Sunday, January 25, 2026. However, the electoral process concluded ahead of polling as the PML-N candidate was elected unopposed.
