According to international media reports, the platform has significantly scaled up its automatic dubbing tool, which now supports 27 languages. Viewers can select their preferred language in the settings, and when a dubbed version is available, the video will automatically play in that language.
The update marks a significant shift in how global content is consumed, allowing creators to reach wider audiences instantly and enabling viewers to access content across language barriers from the moment a video begins.
One of the key additions is “Expressive Speech,” a new artificial intelligence technology designed to preserve the original creator’s tone, emotion and speaking style in translated versions. The feature aims to eliminate the flat, mechanical voiceovers that often reduce the quality and authenticity of dubbed content.
Currently, Expressive Speech is available for translated videos in English, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish, with support for additional languages expected in future updates.
The move underscores YouTube’s push to make content more globally accessible while leveraging AI to enhance the viewing experience.
