Monsoon Rains are expected to hit northern and central parts of Pakistan from August 13 to 15, bringing thunderstorms and increasing the risk of flash floods, urban flooding and landslides. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued alerts for Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, upper Punjab and Gilgit-Baltistan. Several areas of Gilgit-Baltistan could receive heavy rain and thunderstorms. Meanwhile, strong winds and dust storms may affect parts of central Punjab. The NDMA has warned of flash floods in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. Heavy rainfall could also trigger flooding in local streams and waterways. Urban flooding remains a concern in several cities. These include Sialkot, Lahore, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Mardan and Swabi. They have urged relevant departments to maintain close monitoring during the rainy spell. Residents should avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather and stay away from swollen streams and vulnerable slopes. Tourists visiting northern areas have also been advised to exercise extra caution. Meanwhile, most parts of Sindh and Balochistan are expected to remain hot and humid during the period.
