Pakistan Tourism: Shehbaz Sharif highlights plans to expand tourism sector

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif made the remarks in a message marking World Tourism Day, paying tribute to tourists and people working in the tourism sector in Pakistan and around the world.

He said Pakistan’s natural landscapes, historical monuments, cultural traditions and civilisational heritage offered significant opportunities for tourism development.

The prime minister said the government was working to strengthen tourism infrastructure and create employment and socioeconomic opportunities for local communities and young people associated with the sector.

He added that the government wanted to present Pakistan as a safe, attractive and competitive destination for international tourists.

According to Mr Sharif, Pakistan’s moderate climate, mountain landscapes and scenic valleys could attract visitors from around the world.

He also highlighted the country’s ancient civilisations, including the Indus Valley and Gandhara civilisations, as well as its diverse cultural heritage.

Pakistan is also home to historically significant and religious sites associated with Sikhism, Buddhism and other faiths, he said, adding that these sites could support the development of religious tourism.

The prime minister said tourism could contribute to economic growth while strengthening relations between countries.

He said travelling and experiencing different cultures could broaden people’s perspectives and contribute to personal development.

Mr Sharif also linked tourism and recreation with healthy lifestyles, saying greater opportunities for leisure and travel could encourage positive activities and a more balanced way of life.

He called for continued efforts to develop the sector and enable Pakistan’s natural, cultural and historical attractions to reach a wider international audience.
