ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Syria have agreed to further strengthen bilateral defence and security cooperation during a meeting between Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi.

Al-Shaibani, who is visiting Pakistan with a delegation, met the Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces on Friday, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The two sides discussed matters of mutual interest, the regional security environment and opportunities to expand bilateral cooperation in defence and security.

Field Marshal Asim Munir highlighted Pakistan’s longstanding fraternal ties with Syria and shared Islamabad’s perspective on global peace and regional stability.

He stressed the importance of cooperation and joint efforts to address common security challenges facing the region.

The Syrian foreign minister appreciated the professional role of Pakistan’s armed forces in promoting regional peace and stability.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and expanding engagement in defence and security.

The meeting came during Al-Shaibani’s two-day official visit to Pakistan, which is focused on strengthening bilateral ties and discussing regional and international developments.
