FBR extends Tax Year 2026 tax returns deadline to October 15, 2026FBR extends the Tax Year 2026 income tax return filing deadline to October 15.

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has extended the deadline for filing income tax returns for Tax Year 2026 by 15 days, giving taxpayers additional time to complete their filings.

The tax authority announced that the deadline has been moved from September 30 to October 15, 2026. The extension applies to taxpayers who were originally required to file their returns by September 30.

The FBR said the decision followed requests from various trade bodies and tax bar associations seeking additional time for taxpayers to fulfil their filing requirements. The extension was issued under the authority provided by the Income Tax Ordinance.

The revised deadline gives individuals, businesses and other eligible taxpayers an additional two weeks to complete their returns and submit the required information through the prescribed channels.

The FBR has repeatedly urged taxpayers to provide complete and accurate information about their income, assets and other financial details. Its rules also provide penalties for failure to file returns within the applicable deadline.

The tax authority has been strengthening its use of financial and other data to identify discrepancies in taxpayers’ declarations. It has advised taxpayers to ensure that information reported in their returns corresponds with their financial records.

The FBR has encouraged taxpayers to use its online filing system to submit their returns and complete the process before the revised deadline.

The authority’s latest decision provides relief to taxpayers and tax practitioners who had sought additional time to complete documentation and meet their filing obligations.

The FBR has advised taxpayers not to wait until the final days of the extended period and to use the additional time to review their returns and ensure that all required information has been accurately reported.

With the deadline now set for October 15, 2026, taxpayers who were required to file by September 30 have an additional 15 days to meet their income tax filing obligations.
