Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir chaired the 277th Corps Commanders’ Conference at General Headquarters in Rawalpindi on October 2, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). The forum offered Fateha for members of the armed forces, law-enforcement agencies and civilians who were killed while serving the country. Participants paid tribute to their sacrifices. Commanders reviewed the prevailing security environment and resolved to maintain a high level of operational readiness. According to ISPR, the forum reaffirmed Pakistan’s right to self-defence and supported targeted action against terrorism emanating from Afghanistan. The military leadership attributed responsibility for facilitating terrorism to the Afghan Taliban leadership and alleged that it was acting on behalf of India. At the same time, they stressed that military and policing operations should be supported by non-kinetic measures. These measures include people-centred governance at the grassroots level, engagement with the public, action against links between terrorism and organised crime, and strengthening police capabilities under the National Action Plan and Vision Azm-e-Istehkam. The forum also discussed internal stability. According to ISPR, commanders said any attempt to create unrest or a situation similar to the May 9 violence would be dealt with through what they described as decisive action and the rule of law. The commanders welcomed the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye, saying it would contribute to longstanding strategic and collective defence ties. The forum also condemned Houthi attacks against Saudi Arabia and expressed solidarity with the kingdom. It reaffirmed Pakistan’s stated commitment to the security and sanctity of the Haramain Sharifain. On Kashmir, the forum reiterated Pakistan’s position on Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir and its support for resolving the dispute in accordance with relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions and what it described as the aspirations of the Kashmiri people. In his concluding remarks, Field Marshal Munir praised military formations for their operational preparedness and professionalism. He directed commanders to strengthen intelligence-based operations and improve combat capabilities through modern technology, enhanced training and greater integration across operational domains. He said the armed forces remained prepared to safeguard Pakistan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and national security, with ISPR citing the continued support of the Pakistani public.
