Security forces conducted an intelligence-based operation in North Waziristan and surrounding areas, targeting hideouts of militants identified by authorities as members of Fitna al-Khawarij. Five terrorists were killed and two others injured, state-run Radio Pakistan reported. According to security sources, the operation followed surveillance of militant movements. The forces targeted the suspected hideouts as part of ongoing counterterrorism operations under the government’s Azm-e-Istehkam vision. President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the security forces for the operation. Zardari said timely and effective action was helping prevent the activities of terrorist elements, while Shehbaz said operations against Fitna al-Khawarij would continue until terrorism was eliminated. The prime minister also said the eradication of terrorism and establishment of sustainable peace remained key priorities under the Azm-e-Istehkam vision. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also praised the security personnel involved in the operation. In remarks reported by state media, he described the five militants as Indian-sponsored terrorists and praised the forces for what he called their professional capabilities and courage. Naqvi said the nation stood alongside the security forces in the fight against terrorism and paid tribute to their efforts against militants. His allegation of Indian sponsorship was not independently established in the reports available. Federal Minister Abdul Aleem Khan also commended the security forces, saying the operation had thwarted the militants’ plans. He said the government would maintain its resolve to counter threats to Pakistan’s peace and security and paid tribute to those killed in the fight against terrorism. The latest operation comes amid a series of intelligence-based operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Security forces have reported multiple militant casualties in North Waziristan and other districts in recent days.
