G20 Summit in Miami as Donald Trump says Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky can be invited.G20 Summit plans include a possible invitation for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky

US President Donald Trump has said he would welcome Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to the December G20 summit, following Washington’s decision to invite Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Asked by reporters at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida, whether he would invite Zelensky to the gathering, Trump replied: “I would, I would. No problem.”

The remarks came after US Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed in September that Washington had invited Moscow to participate in the summit, despite Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine.

Although Ukraine is not a member of the Group of 20, Ukrainian officials have previously attended G20 meetings as guests, allowing Kyiv to engage with leaders of major economies.

Rubio had earlier said the decision to invite Zelensky rested with Trump. He indicated that the US president would consider the potential diplomatic value of such an invitation.

During his exchange with reporters, Trump also referred to his conversation with Zelensky and expressed confidence that the conflict between Russia and Ukraine could eventually be resolved.

The United States holds the G20 presidency in 2026. The leaders’ summit is scheduled for December 14 and 15 in Miami, Florida, at Trump National Doral, a golf resort owned by the US president.

If Zelensky receives an invitation and attends, the gathering could provide an opportunity for discussions involving Washington, Kyiv and Moscow as the war continues.
