ISLAMABAD — The Armed Forces of Pakistan solemnly commemorated the 54th Shahadat anniversary of Major Muhammad Akram Shaheed, Nishan-e-Haider, honoring his extraordinary courage and sacrifice during the 1971 conflict.
Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), HJ, Chief of Army Staff & Chief of Defence Forces; Admiral Naveed Ashraf, NI (M), Chief of the Naval Staff; and Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, NI (M), HJ, Chief of the Air Staff, led the tribute on behalf of the Armed Forces.
Major Muhammad Akram Shaheed, while commanding a company of the 4th Frontier Force Regiment in the Hilli sector of East Pakistan, demonstrated exceptional valor and resilience. On 19 May 1971, he held his defensive position steadfastly, denying the enemy any tactical advantage. On 3 December 1971, he launched an assault on heavily fortified enemy positions, destroying three enemy tanks before sustaining fatal injuries. He embraced Shahadat on 5 December 1971, exemplifying the highest ideals of bravery and devotion to duty.
The heroic legacy of Major Akram continues to inspire generations and underscores the unwavering commitment of Pakistan’s Armed Forces to protect the nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
On this solemn occasion, the Armed Forces reaffirmed their pledge to honor all martyrs who have laid down their lives for Pakistan, with the nation remaining eternally proud of its courageous sons.
