Iran-US tensions have escalated after Iranian Parliament Speaker Bagher Ghalibaf warned that any hostile US action against Iran would trigger an immediate and severe response. Ghalibaf said the period of limited and measured retaliation had ended, warning Washington that any move against Iran’s interests or security would carry a significant cost. “The era of limited and measured retaliation is over,” he said, adding that Iran would respond strongly to any action targeting its national interests or security. His remarks came after reports that US forces struck three Iranian crude oil tankers following Iranian ballistic missile launches towards two US Navy ships. The US Central Command said no American personnel were injured in the attacks. Meanwhile, Iranian Brigadier General Mohammad Sadeghian claimed that Iran’s air defence forces had targeted up to 370 US aircraft and drones during the war. Sadeghian said Iranian air defence systems had successfully engaged US aircraft and drones, arguing that the reported figures challenged assessments of Iran’s defensive capabilities. He also claimed that several US aircraft and drones had been shot down, although the claims have not been independently verified. According to Sadeghian, Iran had strengthened its air defence capabilities ahead of the second war, improving its ability to respond to aerial threats. The latest statements come amid heightened tensions between Tehran and Washington, with both sides continuing to issue warnings about possible military action.
