Renowned Bollywood filmmaker Vikram Bhatt was arrested on Sunday by a joint team of Rajasthan and Mumbai police in connection with an alleged ₹30 crore fraud case. The arrest took place at Ganga Bhavan on Yari Road, Mumbai, where Bhatt was reportedly staying at his sister-in-law’s residence.

The case was originally filed at Bhopal Pura Police Station in Udaipur by Dr. Ajay Mardiya, founder of Indra IVF, who claims he and his family invested roughly ₹30 crore in multiple film projects — including four films, several documentaries, and a biopic based on his late wife’s life. According to the complaint, Bhatt, his wife Shwetambari, daughter Krishna Bhatt, and some associates promised potential returns of up to ₹200 crore. Dr. Mardiya alleges that some projects remain incomplete, while those released failed to credit him for his investment.
Prior to his arrest, Bhatt had dismissed the allegations as baseless, contending that police were misled and asserting that he has strong evidence to prove his innocence. He maintained that the dispute resulted from delayed payments and production issues rather than fraud, and pledged full cooperation with investigators.
Police have launched a detailed inquiry to verify the nature of the investments, review project outcomes, and determine whether any wrongdoing occurred. The case has attracted widespread public and media attention, given Bhatt’s stature in Bollywood and the substantial amounts involved.
Among Bhatt’s well-known films are Ghulam (1998), Kasoor (2001), Awara Paagal Deewana (2002), 1920, and Shaapit, among others.
