Pakistan Navy successfully carried out a long-range humanitarian medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) in the Indian Ocean, rescuing a Sri Lankan national in critical condition from an Indonesian-flagged vessel, MV Grey Palm, located approximately 800 nautical miles (about 1,500 kilometers) off Pakistan’s coast.

The operation was launched following a formal request from the Sri Lankan Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC), seeking urgent medical assistance for a Sri Lankan crew member onboard the merchant vessel. Responding promptly as a first responder, Pakistan Navy deployed its ships PNS Tabuk and PNS Moawin to the distant location.
Upon arrival, the Navy evacuated the patient along with an attendant and immediately provided necessary medical treatment onboard the Pakistan Navy ship. The swift response ensured timely care for the critically ill crew member.
Sri Lankan authorities and the patient’s family expressed gratitude to Pakistan for its rapid assistance and humanitarian support.
The successful mission underscores Pakistan Navy’s operational readiness and its longstanding commitment to ensuring safety of life at sea, regardless of nationality.
