The attack occurred when an explosives-laden vehicle rammed into the rear side of the police station, triggering a powerful blast followed by an exchange of gunfire. The explosion was so intense that it was heard miles away and caused widespread destruction.
Among the victims were members of a single family, including a husband, wife, and their two children. A police officer was also among the injured.
Initial reports indicate that the sentry post of the police station was completely destroyed, while a large portion of the building was reduced to rubble. Nearby residential areas also suffered severe damage, with several houses collapsing and people trapped under debris.
According to Rescue 1122, the injured were shifted to nearby hospitals, with some reported to be in critical condition. District Emergency Officer Bakhtullah Wazir confirmed the casualties and said rescue operations were ongoing despite challenges posed by continuous rainfall.
Local residents joined rescue efforts, while mosques made announcements appealing for blood donations and assistance.
Security forces have cordoned off the area and launched a clearance operation as authorities continue to assess the full extent of the damage.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the attack and expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives, reiterating the government’s resolve to eliminate terrorism from the country.
The incident comes amid a broader surge in militant violence in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where attacks targeting civilians and security forces have increased in recent months.
