ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s security forces eliminated 17 militants during a series of intelligence-based operations (IBOs) conducted in various districts of Balochistan, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations on Tuesday.
The operations were carried out in Mastung, Nushki, Zehri, Khuzdar and Ketch districts following a deadly train-related incident reported on May 24.
According to the military’s media wing, security forces engaged multiple militant hideouts during the operations. Following intense exchanges of fire, 17 militants were killed in what the military described as a significant blow to terrorist networks operating in the region.
The ISPR stated that the slain militants were affiliated with what it referred to as “Fitna al-Hindustan” and were allegedly involved in several terrorist activities across Balochistan.
Security personnel also recovered weapons, ammunition, explosives and a large number of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) during the operations.
The latest security actions come days after a deadly explosion near a railway track close to Chaman Phatak in Quetta on May 24. The blast claimed the lives of at least 14 people, including three Frontier Corps personnel, while several others sustained injuries.
Officials said women and children were among those wounded in the attack.
Pakistan has witnessed an increase in militant violence, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, in recent years. Security forces have intensified counterterrorism operations aimed at dismantling militant networks and improving security in affected regions.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to continuing intelligence-based operations and taking action against groups involved in attacks targeting civilians, security personnel and public infrastructure.
